I have a magnifying lamp on a "crane" but needed a clamp base. The lamp is white. The pictures of the black and white Grandrich bases looked slightly different although from the description they seemed to be the same. On the off change they really WERE different I bought both to save on shipping, returns, etc. The purchase price was low enough to make it feasible.
Curiously, the lamp fits the black base, but not the white. The opening is about 1/2". The white one looks to be 1/32" narrower; not much, but enough to make the lamp not fit.
Go with the black one. If the colour bothers you, paint it.
